On June 1, 2014, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call regarding a deceased individual in the Kingsway West neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The victim was identified as Laquwan J. A. Lewis, a 23-year-old African-American male known to friends and family by the nickname 'Buddah.' Officers arrived at the scene approximately at 12:18 p.m. after receiving reports of a man lying unresponsive in the rear yard of a residence located at 5109 Northland Avenue.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered Lewis lifeless and suffering from visible signs of head trauma.
Investigators determined that although Lewis had recently moved to an address near downtown St. Louis, he frequently returned to the Northland Avenue area to visit.
