On the night of September 25, 2014, officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were called to a scene in the northern section of the city following reports of gunfire. Just before 10:00 p.m., authorities discovered the lifeless body of 34-year-old Ali Goodin lying in the middle of the street. Upon examination, it was determined that Goodin had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, with injuries specifically noted to his head, chest, elbow, and buttocks.
As investigators
worked to secure the area and gather evidence, a second grim discovery was made only blocks away. A 28-year-old male, whose identity was not immediately released to the public at the time, was found dead on the front porch of a vacant residence. Police officials indicated that they suspected a connection between the two fatal shootings, considering the proximity in both time and location, though the specific circumstances linking the two men were not immediately detailed.
Prior to his death, Goodin had been the target of violence in the same city. Court records from 2011 detail an incident from September 2008 where Goodin was chased through a residential yard on Ashland Avenue. In that earlier event, a witness observed a man known as 'Little Woodie'—later identified by authorities as Jamaal Curry Johnson—shooting at Goodin. Johnson was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with those events. However, despite the violent end Goodin met in 2014, reports following the September 25 double homicide did not immediately announce new arrests or name specific suspects for the fatal shooting that claimed his life.
