On the night of Tuesday, May 12, 2015, law enforcement officials in St. Louis, Missouri, were dispatched to the Wells Goodfellow neighborhood following reports of a shooting. Officers arrived at the 3100 block of Goodfellow Boulevard, located near Barrett Brothers Park, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Upon securing the scene, they discovered an unresponsive male victim lying in the street.
The individual, identified as 20-year-old Markus Jones, had sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and lower back. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene shortly after their arrival.
Witnesses in the area provided initial accounts to investigators, with one motorist reporting the sound of gunfire while driving south on Goodfellow. This witness observed Jones stumble and subsequently collapse onto the roadway. The investigation continued for several months as detectives worked to identify those responsible for the violence.
In April 2016, nearly a year after the incident, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department announced significant developments in the case. Prosecutors issued charges against two suspects: 20-year-old Eric Ivory and 23-year-old Darryon Rowell. Both men were charged with one count of murder and one count of robbery in connection with Jones's death. At the time the charges were announced, both suspects were already in custody on unrelated matters, and a judge ordered them held without bond.
