On April 24, 2022, 24-year-old Jeffrey Davis, a male resident of St. Louis, Missouri, was fatally shot during a violent altercation in the Old North St. Louis neighborhood. The incident occurred early that Sunday morning at a BP gas station located in the 2000 block of North Florissant Avenue. Davis was involved in a fight in the parking lot when he was struck by multiple gunshots to the chest and stomach.
Following the shooting, he was transported by private vehicle to Saint Louis University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Authorities identified a suspect, Deonte Harris, who was seen on surveillance video fighting with Davis before shooting him and fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Harris was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the homicide. Initially facing a charge of second-degree murder, the case moved through the St. Louis Circuit Court system over the following year.
In August 2023, Harris entered a guilty plea to reduced charges, including voluntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm. As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, who dropped an additional count of armed criminal action, Harris was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the death of Jeffrey Davis.
