On the night of Tuesday, September 1, 2015, a violent series of events unfolded in St. Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of 29-year-old Kevin McCombs. The incident occurred in the 2700 block of Wheaton Avenue, a residential area in St. Louis County. Police were dispatched to the scene around 8:10 p.m. in response to a reported double shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two men had been struck by gunfire.
Kevin McCombs, who was found critically injured at the scene, was
immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The second victim, whose identity was not released, survived the attack and was treated for his injuries. The shooting effectively mobilized local law enforcement, who cordoned off the home with crime scene tape as homicide detectives began their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the lethal encounter.
In the wake of the violence, authorities connected the shooting to a robbery. A man from the nearby municipality of Bel-Ridge was identified as the primary suspect. Investigators alleged that this individual was responsible for the deadly double shooting on Wheaton Avenue and subsequently charged him with murder and robbery in connection with McCombs' death. The violence that night did not end with McCombs; just ten minutes after the initial call, police were summoned to a second shooting nearby on the 1200 block of McLaren Avenue, where 18-year-old Damon Willey was found fatally shot.
