In a quiet home on Lee Avenue in Ferguson, a suburb of Saint Louis, Missouri, the life of 58-year-old Joseph Charles Reise came to a tragic and unexpected end on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. The electrician, a beloved father and grandfather, was found unresponsive inside his residence, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound.
The events of that day unfolded into a family tragedy when police began questioning a relative in connection with the death.
The investigation quickly focused on one of Joseph's own sons, Jesse M. Reise. Within a few days, the devastating truth emerged as Jesse Reise was taken into custody and subsequently charged with second-degree murder in the death of his father.
Following the arrest, Jesse Reise was held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $500,000 cash-only bond. The community was left to mourn the loss of a man described as a dear friend and cherished family member, while grappling with the shocking circumstances of his death at the hands of his own son. A visitation for Joseph was held on May 18, allowing friends and family to pay their final respects.
