On the night of September 3, 2020, in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, a violent episode of gun violence claimed the life of 18-year-old Black male Terrell Djuan Scott Jr. The incident occurred late in the evening, approximately around 10:20 p.m., when officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were summoned to the 2500 block of Hodiamont Avenue following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival at the scene, first responders discovered a chaotic situation involving a vehicle that had been the target of gunfire.
Inside the car, police found three teenagers who had been struck by bullets. Terrell Djuan Scott Jr. was discovered unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities, having succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported for medical treatment. Alongside him was another 18-year-old victim, Gerliah Monae Dennis, who was also suffering from gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but tragically died from her injuries shortly after arrival. A third occupant of the vehicle, a 16-year-old male, survived the attack; he sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was hospitalized in stable condition.
Homicide detectives launched an investigation immediately following the discovery of the victims. The area was canvassed for evidence, and authorities sought to piece together the events leading up to the deadly encounter. At the time of the initial reports and throughout the subsequent investigation coverage, law enforcement officials indicated that no suspects had been taken into custody. There were no immediate arrests, and police did not release descriptions of potential shooters or a motive for the attack. The case remained open as investigators urged members of the community with any knowledge of the crime to come forward, yet public records from the period following the incident did not indicate any charges filed or convictions secured in connection with the deaths of Scott and Dennis.
