In the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, a life was tragically cut short on May 15, 2016, leaving a family to grapple with a sudden and violent loss. D'Adrian Bell, a 26-year-old man known affectionately by his nicknames 'Buddha' or 'Pac-Man,' was fatally shot around 12:30 p.m. at a neighbor's house near 72nd Street and Olive Street. The timing of his death was particularly cruel, occurring just hours before his son's third birthday party was set to begin. A father to four boys with another on the way, Bell's death left five children to grow up without him.
The events leading to the shooting began with a dispute over a drug deal. An argument between Bell and another Kansas City man, 35-year-old Brad Lindsey, escalated into a physical fight. The altercation took a deadly turn when Lindsey produced a handgun and fired multiple shots at Bell, ending his life. In an attempt to conceal his crime, Lindsey discarded both his and Bell's cell phones off Highway 71 and threw the handgun into the river from the Broadway Bridge.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Brad Lindsey was arrested and faced a series of felony charges. The Jackson County Prosecutor, Jean Peters Baker, filed charges against Lindsey that included Murder in the 1st Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and four counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence. A bond was requested at $250,000. In July of 2018, a Jackson County jury convicted a defendant in connection with the fatal shooting of D'Adrian Bell, bringing a measure of justice to a family irrevocably broken by violence.
