In the spring of 2017, the life of 19-year-old Derick Thomas, an African American male, was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 19th, in the suburban community of Bellefontaine Neighbors, just outside of St. Louis, Missouri, both Derick and another young man, 18-year-old Keith Sims, were found fatally wounded. Both victims had suffered from gunshots.
The circumstances that led to the violent deaths of these two young men were not immediately apparent to investigators who
arrived at the scene. A double homicide investigation was promptly launched by law enforcement in an effort to piece together the events of that fateful day and to identify those responsible for the killings.
Despite the efforts of authorities, the case has grown cold over the years. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Derick Thomas and Keith Sims, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains open, with law enforcement still seeking any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case. The families and the community are left waiting for justice and closure in the senseless deaths of two of their own.
