On April 19, 2017, 19-year-old African American male Derick Thomas was fatally shot in Bellefontaine Neighbors, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. Another young man, 18-year-old Keith Sims, also lost his life in the same incident. Both victims were found deceased from gunshot wounds. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear, and authorities launched an investigation into the double homicide.
