Early on the morning of May 1, 2017, police in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to a neighborhood in the 3600 block of Benton Boulevard following reports of gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the body of 26-year-old Brian G. Grimmett Jr. sprawled in front of a residence. First responders and paramedics attended to the victim, but he had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to reports surrounding the incident, the young
father had previously moved away from Kansas City in an effort to escape the violence that often plagued the area, only to lose his life upon his return. At the time of his death, he left behind a daughter and was expecting another child with his fiancée.
Investigators processed the scene and searched the area for witnesses, but no immediate arrests were made following the shooting. Despite the passage of time, public records and crime databases continue to list the homicide of Brian Grimmett as an unsolved case, with no suspects publicly named or charged in connection with his murder.
