On May 8, 2017, police in Jefferson City, Missouri, launched a homicide investigation following reports of gunfire in the evening hours. Officers arriving at the scene discovered 23-year-old Taveeon Darnell Fowler suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment but was subsequently pronounced dead. The initial response involved tracking leads after multiple shots were reported, but no immediate arrests were made at the time of the shooting.
The investigation continued for several years before significant breakthroughs occurred. In September 2020, authorities announced the apprehension of two suspects in connection with the case. Robert Farrow, 27, was taken into custody in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by U.S. Marshals, while Devon Skinner, 25, was arrested in St. Louis. Both men faced charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of weapons.
A third suspect, Dana Ray Day Jr., was also identified and charged for his role in the crime. Court documents and proceedings revealed that the altercation leading to the death involved a dispute where the victim was physically assaulted before being fatally shot. Day was eventually sentenced to 25 years in prison in a state case for the fatal shooting. Additionally, in a separate federal legal matter, Day received a 10-year sentence in 2022 for illegally possessing a firearm, which the court ordered to be served consecutively to his state sentence for the killing.
