In the early hours of April 25, 2015, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in the 1400 block of Elizabeth Street in Jefferson City, Missouri, leaving 33-year-old Bryant Sturkey, a male, with multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses at the scene identified Paris Mark Alexander-Henderson, who was 27 at the time, as the shooter. Emergency services rushed Sturkey to a nearby hospital, but his injuries, including a critical wound to his torso, proved fatal.
The Jefferson City Police Department
quickly launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led them to Alexander-Henderson, who, upon being questioned, admitted to shooting Sturkey. A subsequent search of Alexander-Henderson's residence uncovered the weapon used in the shooting, a Girsan. 45-caliber pistol.
Further investigation into Alexander-Henderson's background revealed a prior felony conviction for aggravated DUI. This made his possession of the firearm a federal offense. Consequently, in addition to any state-level charges related to the shooting, Alexander-Henderson faced federal prosecution. He later pleaded guilty in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm. For this charge, he faced a potential sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison without the possibility of parole.
