In a quiet neighborhood near Creve Coeur, a suburb of St. Louis, the life of 44-year-old Michelle Moore came to a tragic end on Sunday, March 25, 2018. A graduate of St. Louis University with a master's degree in speech pathology, Michelle was remembered as a loving daughter, sister, and aunt.
The events that unfolded on that late March weekend were grim. St. Louis County police were called to Michelle's home on the 1400 block of Orchard Lakes for a welfare check on Saturday night.
After being unable to make contact with anyone at the residence, they were called to the home a second time just 15 minutes later. During this visit, officers observed a man, later identified as Michelle's 52-year-old husband, Michael Moore, at the back of the house.
As police tried to get his attention, they heard a gunshot from within the home. The officers immediately backed away and established a secure perimeter around the house, calling in the department's tactical operations unit. After a standoff that lasted for several hours, the tactical unit entered the home at approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday. Inside, they discovered the bodies of both Michelle and Michael Moore.
Investigators concluded that Michael Moore shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. Neighbors informed reporters that the couple was married and generally kept to themselves, expressing shock at the violent turn of events. Some mentioned that Michelle had recently left her husband, speculating that this may have been a motive for the tragedy. No arrests were made as the sole suspect was deceased.
