In a north St. Louis County home, the life of 13-year-old Nevaeh Smallwood was tragically cut short by a gunshot wound. The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon in the 10200 block of Lynncrest Court. When St. Louis County police officers arrived at the scene, they found Nevaeh Smallwood suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
An honor roll student, Nevaeh was described by her great-aunt as a 'really good kid' and a 'girly
girl' who was a 'TikTok queen'. Loved ones gathered for a vigil in Dellwood to remember the young girl whose life was suddenly taken. Family members expressed their devastation and frustration with gun violence, with her aunt stating a wish for young people to 'put the guns down'.
In connection with the fatal shooting, a juvenile male suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Nevaeh's 14-year-old boyfriend. While police were investigating the shooting as a homicide, a great-aunt of Nevaeh expressed her belief that the shooting was accidental. The juvenile suspect's case was set to be handled by the Family Court.
