In the spring of 2018, the life of My'Keon Jerome Wilson-Sanders Sr., a 23-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short in a Kansas City, North, apartment. On the evening of May 24, police were called to the 8000 block of North Thomas Meyers Drive around 8 p.m. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Wilson-Sanders deceased inside the apartment building.
An investigation into the shooting revealed a plan devised a month earlier to rob a man of marijuana and cash at that
same apartment. Wilson-Sanders was allegedly part of this plan, which ultimately resulted in his fatal shooting during the attempted robbery.
Following the incident, Clay County authorities charged two individuals in connection with Wilson-Sanders' death. Marcus Maddox, 26, and Frederick Harrold, 17, both from Kansas City, were charged with second-degree murder. Harrold pleaded not guilty during his arraignment and had a court appearance scheduled for June 26 of that year. Maddox's arraignment was set for the day after Harrold's.
My'Keon Wilson-Sanders was a man with a future ahead of him. He had attended Park Hill High School, where he was active in various sports and the debate team. He worked in food service and was a husband and a father to two children. According to his obituary, he had plans to enlist in the United States Army, a dream that would tragically go unfulfilled.
