Wilkes, who was known by the aspiring rap name “Young Trell,” was remembered by his mother as a teen she supported in his musical ambitions, contingent on him keeping his grades

The individual charged in connection with Maur’Trell Wilkes’s death was identified as 17-year-old Tawan Smith, who resided at the same address as the victim. Smith was charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.
