On the evening of February 21, 2019, 21-year-old Richard Jermaine King was fatally shot in Kansas City, Missouri. The violent incident occurred at the Harvard Court Apartments, located in the 4000 block of Harvard Lane on the city's east side. King, a male resident of the area, became the victim of a double shooting that disrupted the community just before 6:15 p.m.
Officers from the Kansas City Police Department rushed to the scene following reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they discovered two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. First responders transported both individuals to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, King succumbed to his injuries later that night, while the second victim remained in critical condition.
In the days following the homicide, investigators worked to piece together the events that led to the shooting. Police publicly identified King as the deceased victim on the following Sunday. At the time of the initial investigation, authorities reported that they had not yet identified any suspects in the case.
