On the evening of April 5, 2019, a tragic sequence of events unfolded at a residence in the 1900 block of Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Police were dispatched to the home after receiving a call from a man who claimed to have shot his wife. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the body of 64-year-old Katheia Corrigan inside the house she shared with her husband.
The victim, a female, had suffered fatal gunshot wounds, marking a grim conclusion to the domestic disturbance reported just moments earlier.
The caller was identified as the victim’s husband, Timothy Edward Corrigan, who was 69 years old at the time of the incident. He was taken into custody at the scene without incident following his admission to law enforcement. Authorities initially charged him with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, holding him on a substantial cash bond as the investigation proceeded. The case drew attention in the local community as details emerged about the 911 call in which Timothy Corrigan confessed to the shooting immediately after it occurred.
Legal proceedings continued for over two years, culminating in a court appearance in June 2021 where Timothy Corrigan entered a guilty plea. Rather than facing a trial for the original first-degree murder charge, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. In August 2021, Circuit Judge Benjamin Lewis handed down the sentence. Timothy Corrigan, then 71, was ordered to serve 30 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for the murder charge and an additional 30 years for the armed criminal action charge. The judge stipulated that these sentences run consecutively, resulting in a total term of 60 years imprisonment.
