On the night of July 19, 2020, violence erupted at the Briarwood Apartment complex on East 126th Street in Grandview, Missouri, claiming the life of 20-year-old male Keyon Martis. Around 10:30 p.m., local law enforcement officers were dispatched to the residential area after receiving emergency calls reporting the sound of gunfire. Upon their arrival at the scene, first responders discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
One was identified as Martis, and the other was his 22-year-old brother.
Both victims were urgently transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Martis succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. His brother was treated for his wounds and was later reported to be in stable condition. In the immediate aftermath of the homicide, the Grandview Police Department requested the assistance of the Metro Squad, a specialized group of investigators from surrounding agencies, to help pursue leads and interview potential witnesses.
During the investigation, authorities determined that the shooting likely involved multiple perpetrators. Witnesses reported seeing suspects fleeing the scene in a black sedan that contained at least two individuals. Investigators also expressed interest in a light-colored sedan observed in the vicinity which was believed to be connected to the incident. Authorities appealed to the public for information, offering a reward of up to $25,000 for tips leading to an arrest. Despite these efforts and the involvement of the Metro Squad, public records indicate that no suspects have been taken into custody, and the case has remained unresolved.
