In the summer of 2020, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in Kansas City, Missouri. On the morning of July 24th, police were dispatched to the Cloverleaf Apartments where they found 21-year-old Chieyenne Wallis outside on the grass, suffering from gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced deceased. The events that led to her death unfolded within the walls of an apartment where she had been staying with a friend.
According to witness accounts,
an argument erupted between Wallis and a 22-year-old man named Michael Skinner. The verbal altercation quickly turned violent. Skinner, who was armed with handguns, began threatening Wallis, at one point allegedly asking her which gun she wanted him to use to kill her. The situation escalated further as Skinner proceeded to punch and pistol-whip her. At one point during the brutal assault, he reportedly stomped on her head. Wallis desperately tried to escape the apartment, even attempting to jump from a window before Skinner allegedly taunted her, saying he would shoot her once she hit the ground.
Ultimately, Wallis managed to flee the apartment, but Skinner pursued her. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing Skinner shoot Wallis multiple times just outside the apartment building. Video surveillance from the scene reportedly captured the horrifying final moments, showing Wallis collapsing to the ground before an arm extends, pointing a handgun at her head, and the gun recoils. After the initial shooting, Skinner allegedly went back inside the building and emerged with two other men. Before leaving in a car, he walked over to where Wallis lay face down on the ground and shot her again at close range.
The investigation into Chieyenne Wallis's death led to the arrest of Michael Skinner. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for his role in her death. Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000 in cash. Each witness who was present during the incident and listed in the criminal complaint was able to identify Skinner from a photo lineup, solidifying the case against him.
