On July 24, 2020, authorities in Bridgeton, Missouri, began an investigation into a violent incident at a local storage facility that claimed the life of a 28-year-old male named Cameron Gray. Police were first alerted to the scene at Love's Storage Solutions on Missouri Bottom Road around 4:30 a.m. after reports of a security gate being breached. Upon arrival, officers found that a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck, later determined to belong to Gray, had been used to smash through the gate to exit
the property. It was not until approximately two hours later that an employee at the facility discovered Gray’s body inside one of the storage units.
Detectives subsequently reviewed surveillance footage from the facility, which provided a detailed timeline of the events leading up to the death. The video evidence showed that Gray had been inside the unit for roughly four hours installing vinyl flooring alongside an acquaintance. The footage captured the acquaintance, identified by investigators as 27-year-old Michael Molinari of Overland, Missouri, picking up a handgun and racking the slide twice. Molinari was recorded firing a single shot at Gray before shouting an insult, grabbing a box from the unit, and fleeing the scene in the victim's truck.
Following the shooting, a warrant was issued for Molinari charging him with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action. Despite agreeing to meet with officers at a fast-food restaurant early in the investigation, Molinari failed to appear and remained at large for nearly three months. The search concluded on October 23, 2020, when the U.S. Marshals Service located and arrested him in St. Louis County. At the time of the incident, Molinari had a criminal history that included prior convictions for theft and the sale of a controlled substance.
