Black / African American Jalen M. Davis was a 19-year-old resident of Kansas City, Missouri, whose life was cut short in the early morning hours of September 18, 2020. Davis, a male who had graduated from Raytown High School just a year prior in May 2019, was discovered deceased following a call to authorities regarding a suspicious vehicle.
Around 2:00 a.m., officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the 7300 block of East 84th Street after a witness reported a
suspicious car parked in front of a residence. While police were en route to the scene, the call was updated with information that a person had been shot and was unresponsive. Upon arrival, first responders found Davis lying outside the vehicle, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel assessed him at the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
Detectives immediately began an investigation, closing down Oldham Road in both directions for several blocks to canvas the area for evidence. At the time of the discovery, it was unclear whether the shooting had taken place at that specific location or if Davis had been injured elsewhere before ending up on East 84th Street. Investigators worked to determine his association with the vehicle and the neighborhood where he was found.
Despite the initial response and a call for community tips through the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers, no immediate arrests were made following the incident. As of the latest available reports, the case remained unsolved with no suspects publicly identified or charged in connection with his death. The homicide marked the 147th killing in Kansas City for the year 2020. Authorities continued to urge anyone with information to come forward, offering a reward for details that could lead to an arrest, but the investigation has yet to yield a conviction.
