In the cool autumn air of November 9, 2020, the life of 22-year-old Corzelius Mikiyo Kent, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Ferguson, a city within the St. Louis metropolitan area. On that Monday evening, at approximately 10:46 PM, the sound of gunfire pierced the night in the 9300 block of Caddiefield Road. When officers from the Ferguson Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered a grim tableau.
Inside a vehicle, Corzelius and an 18-year-old woman, Articia Alyss Johnson, were found, both having sustained gunshot wounds.
Corzelius was pronounced dead at the scene, his life extinguished in a moment of violence. Articia was rushed to a local hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and she too passed away. The double homicide prompted the Ferguson Police Department to request the assistance of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to lead the investigation into the deaths. The incident took place at the Canfield Green Apartments, a location known in the community.
The investigation progressed, and just over a week later, a suspect was identified and taken into custody. Jajuan Q. Foster, a 20-year-old man from St. Louis, was arrested in connection with the double homicide. Following his arrest, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office filed multiple charges against him. Foster was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Corzelius Kent and Articia Johnson.
In addition to the murder charges, Jajuan Foster also faced two counts of armed criminal action and two counts of tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution. Following the charges, a no-bond warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was subsequently jailed. While an arrest and charges have been made in the case, a motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by law enforcement officials. The case now moves through the judicial system to determine the final outcome for the man accused of ending two young lives.
