On a cold December morning in 2020, the life of 23-year-old Steven Whitfield Jr., a Black male, was cut short in the parking lot of a northwest St. Louis County apartment complex. Just after 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, December 12th, police responded to a call for a shooting in the 11000 block of Oak Forest Parkway Drive. There, they discovered Whitfield lying on the pavement, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency services rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injury proved to be
fatal, and he was pronounced dead a short time later. The St. Louis County Police Department's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons quickly took charge of what was now a homicide investigation. Detectives began to piece together the events that led to the young man's untimely death, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in their efforts to find those responsible.
