On a cold December morning in 2020, the life of 23-year-old Steven Whitfield Jr., a Black male, was cut short in the parking lot of a northwest St. Louis County apartment complex. Just after 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, December 12th, police responded to a call for a shooting in the 11000 block of Oak Forest Parkway Drive. There, they discovered Whitfield lying on the pavement, suffering from a gunshot wound.
