On the afternoon of Sunday, December 13, 2020, a violent incident unfolded in Grandview, Missouri, resulting in the untimely death of 19-year-old Matthew A. Hill Jr. Police officers were dispatched to the 132nd block of Winchester Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered the young male victim lying in front of a residence, suffering from critical gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment, but he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The investigation into the homicide revealed that the shooting stemmed from a narcotics transaction that went awry. Detectives determined that Hill had arranged to meet with an acquaintance to purchase approximately $140 worth of marijuana. Witnesses and court documents indicated that Hill entered the seller's vehicle to conduct the exchange. According to the suspect's later account to authorities, she became suspicious of Hill's movements during the interaction. When Hill allegedly exited the vehicle and attempted to flee with the drugs and money without paying, the situation escalated rapidly.
Authorities arrested 21-year-old Alexis Denise-Marie Fisher in connection with the slaying. During questioning, Fisher reportedly admitted to law enforcement that she had fired her 9mm pistol at Hill as he ran away. She stated that her intention was not to kill him but rather to scare him into freezing or dropping the stolen items so she could proceed with her day. Police recovered the weapon used in the shooting from her vehicle, along with bloody fingerprints and other physical evidence linking her to the crime.
Following the investigation, prosecutors from the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office charged Fisher with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and delivery of a controlled substance. At the time of the charges, prosecutors requested that her bond be set at $250,000. The case highlighted a tragic loss of life over a minor drug dispute, with the suspect acknowledging to police that she sold marijuana to make ends meet alongside her regular employment.
