In the late evening hours of March 10, 2021, the life of 25-year-old Deja Nicole Veal was tragically cut short in a targeted act of violence in Kansas City, Missouri. A Black female, Veal was discovered by police officers lying in the street in the 500 block of Wabash Avenue after they heard gunshots in the area shortly before 10 p.m. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but she was pronounced deceased.
Investigators determined that Veal was the victim of a drive-by
shooting that occurred at the corner of Wabash Avenue and Amie Street. The investigation into her death quickly led to a suspect. Younes Jak was arrested in connection with the homicide.
Following his arrest, Jak faced serious charges for his alleged involvement in Deja Veal's death. In Jackson County, he was charged with one count of second-degree murder, with a bond set at $250,000. Additionally, in Clay County, he was charged with two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, with a bond of $100,000 in that jurisdiction.
