In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 2, 2021, a violent incident unfolded in the College Hill neighborhood of North St. Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of 25-year-old Geniece L. Johnson. Officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were summoned to the 2000 block of Obear Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m. following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered Johnson and a 25-year-old male inside a vehicle, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel transported both victims to a local hospital for urgent treatment. While the male victim was stabilized, Johnson’s condition remained critical. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries the following day, Monday, May 3, 2021. The Medical Examiner’s office subsequently identified her, confirming the homicide.
In the aftermath of the shooting, homicide detectives took over the investigation, appealing to the community for any leads regarding the circumstances of the double shooting. At the time of the initial reports and subsequent updates, authorities had not announced any arrests or named any specific suspects in connection with Johnson's death. Johnson was survived by a large extended family, including her mother, father, and children.
