On a summer evening in Saint-Louis, Missouri, a young man's life was cut short following a dispute. Austin Phillips, a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot on July 16, 2021. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highmont Drive and Gage Drive in Ferguson.
Authorities were alerted to the sound of gunfire and upon arrival, discovered Phillips with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting pointed to an argument that had taken place shortly before the fatal shots were fired.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated to assist the Ferguson Police Department in the investigation. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, 24-year-old Garry Q. Rodgers. After being at large for approximately a month, Rodgers was apprehended in the city of St. Louis following a tip from the public. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the death of Austin Phillips.
