On March 14, 2017, a tragedy befell the Benton Park West neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, involving an African American family that had recently moved to the area. Damien Holmes, a 12-year-old boy, was at home in the 3300 block of Michigan Avenue with his 9-year-old brother.
