In the afternoon chill of a late January day, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of the Kingsway East neighborhood in St. Louis, leaving a scene of tragedy that would claim the life of 21-year-old Davion Rayford. On that Saturday, January 29, 2022, Rayford, a young Black man, was caught in a quadruple shooting that also ended the lives of 18-year-old Armaud Green and 22-year-old Jeremiah Curry, and left a fourth man, aged 20, in critical condition.
The violence erupted around 3:35
p.m. in the 4900 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue. When police arrived, they discovered Green and Curry deceased in or near a parked car. Rayford, gravely wounded, was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. The fourth victim, despite being critically injured, managed to flee the scene and seek help at a convenience store.
Investigators at the scene recovered two firearms and suspected narcotics, suggesting a complex and dangerous situation had unfolded. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into what was the city's first triple homicide in six months. In the immediate aftermath, however, authorities had no suspects and had made no arrests in connection with the deadly shooting.
