On November 27, 1992, 43-year-old Dominic Schenderline, a male resident of Sitka, Alaska, was working as a crew member aboard the fishing vessel Aleut. He was last seen on the vessel in the company of another crew member. At the time of his disappearance, Dominic was described as being an American Indian / Alaska Native man, standing at approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing around 190 pounds. He had black hair and brown eyes, and notably, wore glasses with strong lenses. The clothing he was believed to be wearing consisted of gray wool bib overalls, a blue or red thermal top with stripes on the sleeves, red rubber boots, and gray socks with red stripes. He may have also been wearing either a blue or green baseball cap or a knit gray hat with a black rim. Concerns arose when the fishing vessel Aleut became overdue. The United States Coast Guard was notified and promptly initiated a search and rescue operation in the area where the vessel was last known to be. During their search, the Coast Guard located the Aleut. Tragically, the other crew member who had been on board with Dominic was found deceased. An extensive and thorough search of the vessel and the surrounding waters was conducted in the hopes of finding Mr. Schenderline. Despite the comprehensive search efforts by the Coast Guard, Dominic Schenderline was never located. The search was eventually called off, and he has not been seen or heard from since that day in November 1992. The circumstances surrounding the incident that led to the death of his fellow crew member and his own disappearance remain unclear. The case is a somber reminder of the dangers faced by those who work at sea. The overview of the case is that Dominic Schenderline and a fellow crew member were on the fishing vessel Aleut, which was later found by the Coast Guard after being reported overdue. One crew member was discovered deceased on the vessel, but Dominic Schenderline was never found, and he remains a missing person.
