Kale Adonis Longacre Pastel, a 36-year-old male, was last seen in Sitka, Alaska, on January 5, 2020. On that Sunday, Pastel embarked on a kayaking trip from which he never returned. He was an experienced outdoorsman, familiar with the waters around Sitka. His planned route for the day is not publicly known, but when he failed to make contact with friends and family, concern grew for his welfare. The alarm was officially raised when he was reported overdue, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation in the challenging Alaskan waters. The community of Sitka, known for its tight-knit nature, waited anxiously for any news of the missing kayaker as the days began to pass. The search for Kale Pastel was extensive, involving multiple agencies and dedicated volunteers. The United States Coast Guard, alongside the Alaska State Troopers, deployed both air and sea assets to scour the vast and unforgiving coastline near Sitka. Search parties on foot also combed the shorelines, looking for any sign of Pastel or his kayak. The weather conditions at the time were noted to be difficult, with cold temperatures and potentially rough seas, adding a significant layer of complexity to the search efforts. Despite the thorough and persistent efforts of all involved, no trace of Pastel or his kayaking equipment was ever located. The absence of any findings left his loved ones and the community in a state of painful uncertainty. Days turned into weeks, and the active search for Kale Pastel was eventually suspended, a difficult decision that is never made lightly in such cases. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance, the lack of any located gear, and the inherent dangers of kayaking in Alaskan waters led investigators to the heartbreaking conclusion that he was presumed to have drowned. Without any further leads or new information, the case has remained open but inactive. The official record notes the circumstances of his disappearance as "Missing and presumed drowned after not returning from a kayak trip." The community continues to remember him, and the unresolved nature of his disappearance leaves a lasting void for his family and friends, who are left with unanswered questions about his final moments. An overview of the case indicates an experienced kayaker who set out on a trip and vanished, with an extensive search yielding no clues, leading to the presumption that he was lost to the sea.
