Leo Wagner, a 26-year-old member of the Blackfeet Tribe, was last seen on April 27, 2021, near the St. Mary and Babb areas in northern Montana, close to Glacier National Park. On the day of his disappearance, witnesses reported seeing a man, possibly Wagner, walking near St. Mary Lake. He appeared intoxicated and injured, with further sightings noting him on West Shore Road with an arm injury. Despite search efforts, including the use of sonar and divers, authorities were unable to locate him.
Days later, on May 2, a cabin near Big Nose Bay was found burglarized. Items belonging to Wagner, as well as signs of a possible severe injury, were discovered at the scene.
However, despite extensive search efforts in the surrounding areas, including by the Blackfeet Fish & Wildlife Service, no further clues were uncovered.
The search for Wagner continued over several months, with law enforcement scaling back efforts in May 2021 but maintaining an active investigation. Federal authorities, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, later took on the case as part of efforts to address missing and murdered Indigenous persons.
