In the winter of 2008, a deep sense of unease settled over the Crow Agency community in Montana with the disappearance of one-month-old Wyatt Cole Littlelight, along with his parents, Juliet Toineeta Little Light and Teddy Little Light. The family was last seen on December 23, 2008, when Teddy dropped off his older son at his mother's home in Crow Agency. Juliet also spoke to a relative, mentioning they were on their way to the store. Concern for the family grew when they failed to attend the funeral of Juliet's grandmother in early January. The absence of the young family, especially with a newborn, during the harsh Montana winter, sparked immediate alarm among their relatives.
The search for the Littlelight family began, and on January 5, 2009, their blue and white 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck was discovered. The vehicle was found six miles up Grapevine Road, between Highway 91 and Fort Smith, an area where Teddy was known to have hunted in the past.
The truck was parked about thirty feet off the road in an open prairie, was in working condition, and still had half a tank of gas. There was no sign of the family or any indication of a struggle at the scene. The weather at the time of their disappearance was bitterly cold with deep snow, adding a grave urgency to the search efforts.
In May 2009, the search came to a tragic conclusion for Wyatt's parents. Their remains were found scattered over a wide and rugged area, approximately two to three miles from where their truck had been abandoned. Investigators believe the heavy snowfall had previously hindered the discovery of their bodies. Authorities concluded that Juliet and Teddy Littlelight had died from exposure to the severe weather, and they did not suspect foul play. Among the findings at the scene were articles of infant-sized clothing. Despite extensive searches, Wyatt has never been located. It is sorrowfully believed that due to his vulnerability as an infant in the harsh conditions, his remains may have been consumed by wildlife.
