Ryan Larsen, an 11-year-old boy with high-functioning autism, went missing on May 17, 2021, after walking out of La Vista West Elementary School in La Vista, Nebraska. Frustrated with a math problem, Ryan left the classroom unsupervised and was last seen near his apartment complex a few hours later. He was carrying a polka-dot umbrella, which was later found near a dumpster behind the complex. Despite extensive searches involving local law enforcement, the FBI, and community volunteers, no trace of Ryan has been found.
Ryan had a history of running away and hiding, often found soon afterward. However, this time he disappeared without a trace. Prior to his disappearance, Ryan had searched online for tips on hiding, raising concerns that he may have intentionally concealed himself. Ryan’s family pursued legal action against the school district, arguing negligent supervision, but as of 2023, the lawsuits have been dismissed.
Ryan’s case remains open, and he is considered missing, with no confirmed sightings since the day he left school. Extensive search efforts continue in hopes of bringing closure to his family.
