Michael Joseph Vaughan, a 5-year-old boy, was last seen on the evening of July 27, 2021, near his home in Fruitland, Idaho. Nicknamed "Monkey," Michael was reported missing shortly after 7:00 p.m. by his family, and an extensive search for the young boy began almost immediately. He was last seen between 6:40 and 7:00 p.m., in his neighborhood, wearing a blue Minecraft t-shirt, dark boxer shorts, and flip-flop sandals.
Despite exhaustive efforts by law enforcement, including over 2,500 hours of searches involving drones, K-9 units, and ground searches, no trace of him has been found.
Authorities suspect foul play in Michael's disappearance. Several leads have pointed to a possible abduction, with investigations focusing on individuals in the area around the time of his disappearance. In November 2022, police searched the home of Sarah and Stacey Wondra, located just a few blocks from where Michael vanished, after receiving a tip that his remains might have been buried there. Sarah Wondra was later arrested for failing to report a death related to the case. However, no remains were found, and investigators believe that Michael’s body may have been moved from the property.
The investigation remains active, with police following numerous leads and urging the public to come forward with any information. They continue to believe that other individuals have knowledge of what happened to Michael and have yet to cooperate with authorities. While several people have been questioned, no one has been formally charged in connection with his disappearance, and Michael's whereabouts remain unknown.
