Family members grew concerned after not seeing or hearing from Sharbrina and her young son for over a month and reported them missing in June of that year. The last confirmed sighting of the mother and child was on June 27, 2024, in the nearby town of Seaboard, North Carolina.
The circumstances surrounding their disappearance were troubling. Sharbrina McGee did not own a vehicle or a cell phone at the time she and Khance went missing, making it difficult to trace their movements. A possible, but unconfirmed, sighting of Sharbrina was reported in Emporia, Virginia, just twenty miles from Seaboard, a few days after their last confirmed location. Investigators have also considered that they may be in the Roanoke Rapids area of North Carolina. Sharbrina is described as a Black female with black hair and brown eyes, standing between 5'5' and 5'6' tall and weighing between 130 and 140 pounds. She has several distinctive tattoos, including lip prints and the word 'Sprink' on her upper chest, a red heartbeat line with the words 'Faith,' 'Hope,' and 'Love' and the name 'Dy'vanna' on her arm, stars on her upper arm, a bow on the inside of her wrist, and a design including a lip print on her lower back.
The Jackson Police Department is leading the investigation into the disappearance of Khance and his mother. Their case has been entered into the National Crime Information Center database, and local, state, and federal authorities are involved in the search. Law enforcement conducted a canvass of the area where the two were last seen, and search teams have gone door-to-door in nearby Weldon. Friends and family have expressed their deep concern, stating that it is highly unusual for them not to have any contact with Sharbrina.
