In the early morning hours of February 1, 2005, a 56-year-old man named Carl Butler vanished from his home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. His wife reported last seeing him at their residence on the 700 block of Marlee Drive around 2:00 a.m. watching television. By 6 a.m., she discovered the back door open and her husband gone. An off-duty police officer may have spotted him walking near the corner of Meadowbrook and Vermin Road around the same time.
From that point on, no one has reported hearing from or seeing Carl Butler again.
Butler, also known by the nicknames Butler El and Be Bop, was in a vulnerable state at the time of his disappearance. He was recovering from surgery for a brain aneurysm and required medication, which he left behind.
