On August 16, 1972, 42-year-old Moses Mailailua Kahiapo and his friend, 33-year-old Arthur Allen, embarked on a fishing trip from Heeia Kea Pier in Kaneohe, Hawaii. They planned to troll for aku (skipjack tuna) approximately 15 to 20 miles offshore. When they failed to return as expected, concerns arose, prompting an extensive search operation.
