On May 10, 1975, a 30-year-old man named Sam Allen embarked on a hike with his wife and a friend into the scenic but rugged Kuuloa Mountain Range in Kaneohe, Hawaii. The group ventured along a trail, surrounded by the lush, tropical landscape of Oahu's windward coast.
