Amber Shawnell Hoopes, a 20-year-old woman, disappeared on the night of September 14, 2001, from her grandparents' home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was last seen around 10:30 p.m. when she was reading in her bedroom. By 1:00 a.m., her grandmother noticed Amber was missing, although her television and lights were still on. Amber's personal belongings, including a paycheck and her computer, were left untouched, raising suspicions of foul play.
Amber had been working at her grandparents' auto body shop, located next to their home, and investigators believe she had gone out to use the business computer before vanishing. A pickup truck from the shop also went missing that night but was found abandoned nearby with extra miles on it. This, combined with the lack of any indication that Amber left voluntarily, led authorities to suspect she had been abducted.
A key suspect in the case, Keith Glenn Hescock, had prior connections to Amber's family and the auto body shop. Hescock became a suspect after he kidnapped a young girl in 2002 and later died during a police standoff. Although Hescock had been considered a suspect earlier, the investigation into his possible involvement in Amber's disappearance intensified after his death. However, despite extensive searches and ongoing efforts, Amber's body has never been found, and her case remains unsolved to this day.
In honor of Amber and other missing persons, September 14 was designated as Idaho Falls' Missing Persons Day in 2007. The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office continues to pursue leads in hopes of finding answers for her family.Last Seen: Sep 14, 2001
