Susan Seymour Adams, a 42-year-old woman from Austin, Texas, disappeared on September 30, 1990, while on a hunting and camping trip with her husband, Tom, and a group of hunters in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness near Battle Lake, Idaho. The couple had spent months planning the trip, arriving in the area on September 22. On the morning of her disappearance, Susan left camp around 9:00 a.m. to go bird-watching in a nearby meadow, carrying only a camera and binoculars.
She never returned, and despite extensive searches, no trace of her has ever been found.
Tom, her husband, followed her tracks from the campsite, which led to a spot approximately 20 yards from the meadow, where they abruptly stopped. Search teams scoured the area for weeks, but rugged terrain and inclement weather hindered the search efforts. At the time, Susan was not carrying any food, warm clothing, or survival gear, leading authorities to believe she either became lost or was injured, possibly fatally. A second search in 1991 also yielded no results, and by July of that year, Susan was officially declared dead by a judge.
