In a tragic turn of events that shattered a quiet neighborhood, 17-year-old Natalya Le, a female student at Penn Wood High School, was killed on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in a devastating house fire and shooting in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. The incident, which took place at a residence on Lewis Avenue, also claimed the lives of her parents, 40-year-old Xuong Le and 37-year-old Britni McLaughlin-Le, and her two younger siblings, 13-year-old Nakayla and 10-year-old Xavier.
The Delaware County District Attorney identified the suspect as Natalya's uncle, Canh Le. According to authorities, Canh Le was involved in an argument with his niece, Nakayla, before he retrieved a rifle and shot his family members. Following the shooting, he set the house on fire. The grandparents, who also lived in the home, were able to escape and call the police. When officers arrived, Canh Le opened fire on them, injuring two officers.
The ensuing blaze engulfed the home, and it took several days for investigators to recover the remains of the six individuals from the rubble. The Delaware County District Attorney later confirmed that five of the family members, including Natalya, died from gunshot wounds, while her younger brother, Xavier, died from smoke inhalation. Canh Le's death was also a result of a gunshot wound. The specific motive for the tragic event remains unclear, with the District Attorney stating that the cause of the initial argument may never be known. The community and fellow students at Penn Wood High School were left to mourn the loss of Natalya, who was remembered as a talented individual with a bright future.
