Jeffrey Dale Nichols, a 40-year-old air traffic controller, was last seen on the morning of June 8, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had plans to meet his ex-wife and young son for breakfast at a McDonald's in Midvale, Utah, but he never arrived. Nichols reportedly called his ex-wife that morning, telling her he couldn't make the meeting, and he was never heard from again. His girlfriend reported him missing the following day.
His white 2000 Ford Ranger was found over a month later, on July 15, 2004, parked near 4800 South State Street in Salt Lake City, just a few blocks from the restaurant where he was supposed to meet his family. The vehicle remained untouched, and there has been no activity on Nichols’ bank accounts or credit cards since his disappearance.
At the time of his disappearance, Nichols was preparing for a trip to visit his sister in Wisconsin and was in good spirits according to his loved ones. He had purchased airline tickets and made hotel reservations. Despite his seemingly content life, both police and his family have called the circumstances of his disappearance suspicious. His ex-wife moved away shortly after his disappearance, and a warrant was later issued for her arrest related to bankruptcy fraud.
