On the evening of July 4, 2004, 45-year-old Nancy Zoe Dennis was last seen in the Franklin, Arizona area. She was leaving Safford, Arizona, around 7:00 p.m. with the intention of driving to Duncan, Arizona. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as a White female with blue eyes and brown hair that may have been dyed blonde. She stood between 5'4" and 5'6" tall and weighed between 145 and 155 pounds. Nancy has several distinct tattoos, including a butterfly on her left shoulder and a cross with a red rose in the middle on her right ankle. The last time she was seen, she was wearing a shirt with a floral design. Nancy also has an unspecified medical condition that may require attention. The circumstances following Nancy's departure from Safford are unsettling. Later on the same evening she was last seen, her red 1998 Ford pickup truck was spotted being driven by an unidentified individual in a high-speed chase in Duncan. The pursuit occurred in a very hilly and remote desert area approximately four miles south of US 70. Authorities have referred to the person driving her vehicle as a possible suspect in her disappearance. Ultimately, Nancy's truck was discovered abandoned in Franklin, Arizona, with no sign of Nancy herself. The investigation into Nancy Dennis's disappearance has been handled by the Greenlee County Sheriff's Office. Despite the passage of time, her case remains unsolved, and what began as a holiday evening drive between two eastern Arizona towns has turned into a long-standing and troubling mystery. The key elements of the case—her last known movements, the high-speed chase involving her vehicle with an unknown driver, and the subsequent discovery of her abandoned truck—have not yet yielded the answers needed to bring her home. Her family and community are left to wonder what happened to her after she set out on her journey to Duncan.
