In the winter of 2010, Daniel Lambertson was embracing a new chapter in his life in the idyllic setting of Oahu, Hawaii. At 39 years old, the New Jersey native was a successful real estate agent, known for his friendly and outgoing personality. He and his wife, Theresa, had been together for seven years before moving to Hawaii and had recently celebrated their wedding just three months prior, in October 2009.
While Theresa worked as a nurse, Daniel had established himself in the local real estate market, recently transitioning to a new agency, Tropic Lightning Real Estate. Friends and family described him as a happy and well-adjusted person who was settling into a promising life with his new bride in their Pearl City home, with no apparent enemies or signs of personal distress.
The evening of Saturday, January 30, 2010, began like many others for the couple. They attended a service at their church, the New Hope Christian Fellowship, which was holding services at Farrington High School in Aiea. Because Daniel had been running errands earlier in the day, he and Theresa drove to the church in separate vehicles, a common practice for the busy couple. After the service concluded, they spoke and made plans to meet back at their home for dinner. Theresa drove home, but Daniel never made it. In the short time between her leaving the church and arriving home, her husband had tried to call her twice. She missed both calls and, seeing no voicemail message, assumed it wasn't urgent. When he failed to return home, she grew concerned and tried calling him back, but her calls went unanswered. Daniel Lambertson was never seen or heard from again.
Three days of uncertainty passed until a significant break in the case occurred on February 2, 2010. Daniel’s maroon and gray 2000 Volkswagen Jetta was discovered abandoned in a parking lot at Hauula Beach Park on Oahu's North Shore. The location was a considerable distance from both the church in Aiea and his home in Pearl City, roughly an hour to an hour-and-a-half drive away and not along a direct route. The car was locked, and inside were all of his personal belongings, including his briefcase. The discovery prompted an intensive search of the surrounding area by police and fire departments, using helicopters and boats, but no trace of Daniel was found. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain a baffling mystery. While law enforcement has stated there is no evidence of foul play, his wife has maintained that it was completely out of character for him to leave without any warning.
