Following his disappearance, authorities uncovered several suspicious activities, including the discovery that $25,000 in cash had been taken from his home, and a gun he owned was also missing. Additionally, checks totaling $48,000 were fraudulently cashed in Mexico, and his mailing address had been changed to a nonexistent one in Texas. Cruz's case remains unsolved, and he has not been seen or heard from since.
