Mark Myhre, a 61-year-old man from Bay City, Wisconsin, was last seen on December 25, 2012, while sailing alone near the Middle Keys in Monroe County, Florida. He had recently purchased a boat, the *Galilean*, in Fort Myers and was traveling solo along the Florida Keys, with plans to explore the Caribbean and Panama Canal. Myhre spoke with his son on Christmas Day, the last known contact anyone had with him.
A week later, on January 2, 2013, the *Galilean* was found beached near Elliott Key, just south of Miami. The boat was intact, with no signs of damage or foul play, and it appeared as though it had not been beached for long based on the lack of algae growth on its water lines. However, Myhre was nowhere to be found, and despite an extensive search conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities, no trace of him has ever been located.
There was no evidence suggesting that Myhre had intentionally left the boat or met with foul play, leaving his disappearance a mystery. Investigators have classified the case as a "lost/injured missing" situation, as he was last seen on the open water. To this day, no further clues regarding his whereabouts have emerged, and his case remains unsolved.
