Clifford Raymond Peranteau, 23, was last seen on January 20, 1985, in San Francisco, California. Clifford worked at Dennis Moving Company, where he often clashed with his co-worker Charles Ng. Shortly before his disappearance, Clifford reportedly mentioned to his girlfriend that "Charlie" (Ng) had invited him to Lake Tahoe. After that, he vanished and was never heard from again.
Investigators later uncovered evidence suggesting that Clifford fell victim to notorious serial killers Charles Ng and Leonard Lake. Several of his personal belongings were discovered in Ng’s apartment and in Lake's cabin, which was later revealed to be a site where they held and tortured victims. Ng and Lake were known for abducting, torturing, and killing numerous people in the mid-1980s. While many of their victims' remains were found, often burned and dismembered, Clifford's body was never recovered.
Charles Ng was eventually convicted of multiple murders, though he has consistently denied responsibility for Clifford’s disappearance, blaming Lake instead.
