Maria Giovanna Evangelista, a 36-year-old woman, went missing on January 28, 1997, in San Francisco, California. Originally from Montreal, Canada, Maria had recently traveled to California after expressing to her family that she did not want to return to a psychiatric hospital in Montreal. Shortly after arriving in San Francisco, she stayed at a hotel where her belongings were later found abandoned on February 7, 1997.
